Data subject rights

Version 1.0Effective 2026-05-16Applies to Veva Law

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) you have four primary rights you can exercise against Veva Law. This page lists each right, how to use it, and the timeframes we are bound to. You can email the Information Officer directly, or use the form at the bottom of the page.

Access (POPIA s. 23)

You may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, and to provide a record or description of it. We will respond within 30 days. The first access request per data subject in any 12-month period is free; subsequent requests within the same 12-month window may attract a prescribed fee under regulation 7.

Email info-officer@vevalaw.co.za — Access request

Correction (POPIA s. 24)

You may ask us to correct or update personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or obtained unlawfully. We will action the correction and, where reasonably practicable, notify any onward processors or third parties to whom we previously disclosed the information so that they may update their records.

Email info-officer@vevalaw.co.za — Correction request

Deletion (POPIA s. 24)

You may ask us to destroy or delete personal information we are no longer authorised to retain. We will action the deletion unless a lawful exception applies — for example, a legal-hold notice, a tax / FICA / Companies Act retention obligation, an audit-trail or accounting-record requirement, or an unresolved dispute. In those cases we will tell you which records are retained, on what basis, and for how long.

Email info-officer@vevalaw.co.za — Deletion request

Objection (POPIA s. 11(3))

You may object, on reasonable grounds, to our processing of your personal information where the lawful basis is “legitimate interest” or “public interest”. You may unconditionally object to processing for the purposes of direct marketing (POPIA s. 11(3)(b)) — no reasons required. We act on the objection without delay and update our processing register.

Prefer to type it rather than open your mail client? Use the form below. We log the request in the same inbox the Information Officer monitors, so the timelines above apply identically.

If we cannot agree

If you are unhappy with how we have handled a request, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za. The Information Officer for Veva Law is Norman M. Nel (Founding partner, Veva Law), reachable at info-officer@vevalaw.co.za.
