POPIA notice

Version 1.0Effective 2026-05-15Applies to Veva Law

This notice explains how Veva Law processes your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and tells you how to reach the Information Officer.

Information Officer

The Information Officer for Veva Law is Norman M. Nel (Founding partner, Veva Law), registered with the South African Information Regulator under POPIA section 55 and reachable at info-officer@vevalaw.co.za. We acknowledge requests within 5 business days and reply substantively within 30 days, as POPIA requires. See the full Information Officer profile for the deep-dive (designation, registration, breach notification, postal address).

  • Deputy Information Officer: none currently appointed. Requests escalate to the founder pending appointment.
  • Information Regulator registration number: <POPIA_REG_NO> (TBD — pending confirmation from the Information Regulator).
  • Business address: 1st Floor, Veva House · Sandton · Johannesburg.

Complaints to the Information Regulator

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint directly with the South African Information Regulator:

Your rights as a data subject

Each right below has a dedicated route on /popia/data-subject-rights — email link per right plus an inline form, monitored by the Information Officer.

  • Access (s. 23): ask us what personal information we hold on you and how it is being used.
  • Correction (s. 24): ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date.
  • Deletion (s. 24): ask us to delete your information, subject to our legal obligations to retain (e.g. tax records, audit trails).
  • Objection (s. 11(3)): object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interest, or to direct marketing (unconditional).
  • Withdraw consent: for processing carried out on the basis of consent — e.g. our newsletter or marketing communications.
  • Complaint: submit a complaint directly to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.

How to make a request

Use the dedicated data subject rights page (email link per right plus an inline form), or email info-officer@vevalaw.co.za (addressed to Norman M. Nel) with:

  • Your full name and contact email
  • The right you are exercising (access / correction / deletion / objection)
  • Enough detail for us to find the relevant records
  • Proof of identity for high-sensitivity requests

Direct marketing

We use direct marketing only with your opt-in consent (POPIA s. 69). You can withdraw consent at any time by replying "UNSUBSCRIBE" to any marketing email or by emailing the Information Officer.

Direct-marketing consent is captured separately at the point of subscription (for example a future newsletter signup) and is never bundled with the contact-form consent above — that consent is solely for lawful processing of your enquiry under POPIA s. 11. Any future subscription checkbox will default to unticked and require an affirmative action from you.

Children

We do not knowingly process personal information of children under 18 without parental or guardian consent.

PAIA

Our Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) manual is published separately — see PAIA manual.
